Here's Hanitra's personal description of Antshow
ENTRANCE: ART GALLERY A spacious room with pillars. Half of the room has big mirror windows with a view. The floor is made out of huge pieces of granite that normally would be used for the beds in a tomb.
This is an open space for what I would call a "changing art". Sometimes just to exhibit the existing talents in all forms of arts - painting, sculpture, moulding, etc, or to exhibit photos, history, whatever. Sometimes, it can turn into a permanent workshop on how to make a valiha and how to play it, or how to make traditional baskets from scratch, or Madagascar's famous recycled tin toys. Sometimes it can turn into a competition of the traditional game Fanorona (Malagasy chess), or just be a place for young Valiha High players to hang out, or Hiragasy to perform. It's the entrance, it is spacious and we can do anything we want . . .
BEHIND THE GALLERY: THE STUDIO This studio is going to be used by rehearsing bands, working out things for musicians or anybody who would like to hire it. We will record there too eventually but we must find all the equipment first. Tarika will finally have a house for our instruments.
Valiha High students will have a permanent place to learn valiha.
From the Gallery, near a small fountain, there are stone stairs in the open air that lead people to the first floor level of the arts centre and the . . .
OPEN TERRACE On the terrace, we can eat, drink, meet and talk. On the left is the restaurant and on the right is the the live music room. In front of it is the staircase, the public toilets, the kitchen.
THE RESTAURANT We will serve purely Malagasy food. Not that which is usually found in restaurants but what we actually eat at home, with of course Hanitra's style and touch. This room has a very cosy wooden fire in it.
THE LIVE MUSIC ROOM We shall have live music in here maybe be 2 or 3 times a week and we shall also rent the room for all sorts of activities like weddings, meetings, conferences. Capacity about 250 standing or 100 sitting and eating.
Upstairs again . . .
THE SILK ROOM. We will sell traditional Malagasy silks, sew them and make them fashionable again.
THE MASSAGE ROOM We will have a massage room where we will use traditional massaging techniques and only essential oils from Madagascar. We will eventually have a sauna and hairdresser too.
THE ROOMS TO RENT Will be luxurious at the top floor, with amazing views of mountains and trees and the lake in front and the Rova palace on the other side. There are 5 to 7 rooms to rent:
- 2 double rooms with fabulous view of mountains (the most expensive)
- 1 twin room with a terrace and a view of the palace.
- 1 double room with lots of different angles
- 1 single room overlooking the music terrace.
These rooms can be rented with breakfast, lunch, dinner if guests want.
We will train people to give maximum service. We will be creating cultural tourism with cars, drivers, interpreters, and especially Malagasy artists who will take tourists to places of traditional ceremonies, musical and cultural interest.
We need lots of things yet, we need lots of professionals to train us, we also need ideas, time, money, but the biggest job of all is well under way.
